Family Owned Since February 1983

Louisiana Nursery is a family-owned business that opened in February 1983 when Roger Mayes found himself job hunting for the first time in his professional career. He’d dedicated the previous 25 years of his life (from the age of 16) working for Woolco, a popular retail store at the time. He might have spent his entire career there, but fate had other plans for Roger when Woolco stores began unexpectedly closing, including the location where he worked.

Not long after, he saw an opportunity to open a seasonal nursery in one of Woolco’s empty store locations. The business quickly grew and moved into another site the next year. From the start, Roger’s mission was to provide excellent service and the highest quality products to the people of Louisiana. Roger, his wife Marilyn and son Mitch lived this mission every day, and the community responded helping the Mayes family grow the business to become the Baton Rouge area’s favorite independent garden center.

Today, Louisiana Nursery has three locations across Greater Baton Rouge. Each site features more than 2.5 acres filled with thousands of beautiful plants, colors of all shades and hues, and helpful staff guaranteeing you an absolutely wonderful shopping experience every time you visit.

Roger has passed the company’s leadership torch to Mitch, who serves as president. Mitch and his team are dedicated to bringing Baton Rouge the hottest new plants and the latest in horticulture trends and advancements so you can rest assured what you’re getting here is on par with any garden center across the country. Stop in and add some natural beauty to your life. We’d love to help!

Quality Plants that Perform Best in Baton Rouge

We have an extensive list of growers from which our in-house buyers source only the best plants that perform the best locally. The big box stores buy for regions like the Gulf Coast, while Louisiana Nursery buys not only for South Louisiana, but sometimes drills down to microclimates, meaning what performs best here in Baton Rouge (not New Orleans or Shreveport). It’s this dedication to quality that gives you peace of mind when you invest in our plants.
