The Early Bird Gets the Worm

If you are thinking about adding new shrubs or trees to your landscape this year, now is the time to get them. The early bird gets the worm! The sooner you get to the garden center, the better the selection of premium quality shrubs and trees there will be. The reason for this is, garden center buyers' travel throughout the country during the months of January and February to find the best quality plant material to stock the stores for early spring. When you shop in this early period you will be looking at the best of the best. When you purchase and install better quality plants, the more successful you will be with your new additions.

Another benefit to planting in early spring is your new plants will have time to get over any transplant shock and the root system will be established before its first summer. The first summer is usually the biggest hurdle to get over in order for your plants to live a long and healthy life in its new home.
