SUMMARY:Landscape Design with Imahara's Landscaping: In-Person Class
DESCRIPTION:Landscape Design brings out the best in each of us: Forming our spaces in ways that invite nature rather than fight it \nAbout the Event:\nWhen: Monday\, October 6th\, 6:00pm\nWhere: 8680 Perkins Rd\, Baton Rouge\, LA 70810\nGuest Speaker: Wanda Chase Metz\nCost: Free Entry \nNothing merges our beloved hobby of gardening with artistic inspiration more than landscape design. Rather than being so focused on regular maintenance\, on cutting grass and on seasonal lawn-care routines\, designing a space uses an entirely different set of muscles that many of us tend to ignore. While there’s nothing wrong with having a “messy” garden\, the ability to create a visually inviting space for ourselves or company is both useful practice and a cathartic experience. \nTo do so effectively\, landscape designers are performing a delicate balancing act: \n\nFulfill the wants of your clients and manage expectations\nAdhere to a budget\nFind plants that fit the local climate & the space itself\nPlanning for the long-term\, both seasonal points of interest & years down the road\n\nYou yourself may not be looking to start up a landscape design firm\, but these principles can obviously be helpful when we design our own gardens or communal outdoor spaces. With the help of our friends at Imahara’s Landscape Design\, you’ll get decades of expertise to speed along all your gardening projects! Avoid the beginner pitfalls and get the inside tips that made Imahara’s a quality name in Baton Rouge at our free class!

SUMMARY:Fall Bird Migration with Cam Russell
DESCRIPTION:Birds on the Move: Unveiling the Mysteries of Fall Migration \nThis and every fall\, billions of birds across North America will flock southwards in search of more abundant food – many of them landing here in Louisiana and across the Gulf Coast region! It’s a display unlike any other\, spectacular in scale and deeply enriching to appreciate. \nWith help from the Baton Rouge Audubon Society (BRAS)\, we’re excited to share that appreciation in our next seminar: Fall Bird Migration! You’ll learn more about migratory birds\, their impact on our environment\, how these patterns are changing\, and what you can do to help\, all accessible concepts for beginners and birders alike! \nKeep scrolling for event details\, free registration\, and a word from the seminar presenter: \nWhen: 6pm\, Wednesday\, September 4th\nWhere: 13121 Coursey Blvd\, Baton Rouge\, LA 70816 (indoor event\, A/C included!)\nTickets: Free attendance\, but please register yourself & guests so we can provide enough seating & refreshments. (Registration form includes “number of guests”).\nPresenter: Cam Russell (She/her) \nSorry. This form is no longer available. \nA word from Cam:\n“Hey there! I’ve loved nature and the outdoors since childhood\, always jumping at the opportunity to explore new environments. Growing up in a military family\, those opportunities were often! I lived in Alabama\, Texas\, and Virginia before moving to Baton Rouge in 2018 to study environmental science at LSU. Today\, I’m an avid birder\, naturalist\, and have worked at the nursery since 2022! \n\nIn 2019 I took both the spring and fall Birding Basics classes offered by the Baton Rouge Audubon society. Enamored with Louisiana’s rich avian fauna and unique ecology\, I realized this was the perfect place to call “home”. My partner and I purchased a house the following year\, and it wasn’t long before the traditional lawn was transformed into my very own park. This park is now certified wildlife habitat\, with dozens of species documented in our little third of an acre in Mid-City! \n\n\nSince 2019 I have participated in a variety of birding events such as the Big Sit\, the Christmas Bird Count\, and FeederWatch. Before Covid I occasionally assisted the Louisiana bird observatory with their banding station at Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center. I also participated in an extended research project with the ornithology lab at LSU wherein I surveyed various buildings on campus for birds that had died from window strikes to determine risk factors and ways to help birds.\n\nWith all that being said\, I can’t wait to share everything I’ve learned from my experiences and the birding community with Louisiana Nursery. Just don’t forget your ABCs: Always Bird Constantly! (:

SUMMARY:Butterflies & Pollinator Gardens with Isabelle Morgan
DESCRIPTION:Turn Your Garden into a Pollinator-Haven \nJoin LA Nursery for a deep-dive on the world of pollinators\, their purpose in our ecosystems\, and the best plants to attract them to your backyard available at our garden center! \nGuest Speaker: Isabelle Morgan \nIsabelle (Isa) Morgan is the Insectarium Horticulturist at Audubon Nature Institute in New Orleans\, Louisiana. In her day-to-day\, she maintains the Audubon Butterfly Garden and educates the public on the importance of pollinators and native biodiversity.\nIsa is a 2023 graduate of LSU’s Plant and Soil Systems degree program with a minor in Entomology\, and has future plans to pursue a masters degree in Human-Plant Interactions. Her main interests include sustainable agriculture\, education\, and horticulture therapy. \nAbout the Event:\nLearn what it means to plan and plant a garden with the “pollinator-first” mindset. This includes using more native plants\, practicing “companion planting\,” and learning how we\, as gardeners\, can help our pollinators thrive in a multitude of ways. \nKey Takeaways: \n\nWhat is Pollination: The bedrock of everything we do at the garden center is thanks to the miracle of pollinators and how they have co-evolved with plants. Knowing the “how” is key to understanding why we plant certain things for certain insects.\nPollinator-Friendly Plant-Care: Thinking with the “pollinator-first” mindset means adjusting the chemical programs you’ve used in the past\, or even adjusting your expectations of what a healthy garden looks like. This doesn’t mean cutting it all out\, though! Organic certified products have made real strides over the years\, and we’ll take a look at what can safely be applied to a pollinator haven!\nButterfly Gardens: Monarchs tend to get all the attention\, but there’s many other beautiful butterflies in Louisiana! Butterfly gardens are an especially popular subject with our garden club community\, so we’ll have a section dedicated to attracting all kinds of them.\nQ&A: Have your questions answered by our expert guest speaker and garden center staff.\n\nWho Should Attend:  \n\nButterfly enthusiasts and bug-lovers everywhere!\nHomeowners looking to add some extra life to their lawns.\nAny gardener wanting a better idea of how the plant & insect kingdoms come together.\n\nDon’t miss this opportunity to learn valuable tips and tricks for creating a thriving butterfly garden with the “pollinator-first” mindset! \n\n \n \n Event Sign-Up - Butterfly & Pollinator Gardens\n \n \n Δ\n \n \n\n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Phone(Required)How did you hear about this event?Social MediaGoogleWord of MouthRefer a FriendPast ParticipantOtherNumber of tickets?Contact DetailsWe collect contact information purely for event reminders and raffle entries (if applicable).
