SUMMARY:Fall Bird Migration with Cam Russell
DESCRIPTION:Birds on the Move: Unveiling the Mysteries of Fall Migration \nThis and every fall\, billions of birds across North America will flock southwards in search of more abundant food – many of them landing here in Louisiana and across the Gulf Coast region! It’s a display unlike any other\, spectacular in scale and deeply enriching to appreciate. \nWith help from the Baton Rouge Audubon Society (BRAS)\, we’re excited to share that appreciation in our next seminar: Fall Bird Migration! You’ll learn more about migratory birds\, their impact on our environment\, how these patterns are changing\, and what you can do to help\, all accessible concepts for beginners and birders alike! \nKeep scrolling for event details\, free registration\, and a word from the seminar presenter: \nWhen: 6pm\, Wednesday\, September 4th\nWhere: 13121 Coursey Blvd\, Baton Rouge\, LA 70816 (indoor event\, A/C included!)\nTickets: Free attendance\, but please register yourself & guests so we can provide enough seating & refreshments. (Registration form includes “number of guests”).\nPresenter: Cam Russell (She/her) \nSorry. This form is no longer available. \nA word from Cam:\n“Hey there! I’ve loved nature and the outdoors since childhood\, always jumping at the opportunity to explore new environments. Growing up in a military family\, those opportunities were often! I lived in Alabama\, Texas\, and Virginia before moving to Baton Rouge in 2018 to study environmental science at LSU. Today\, I’m an avid birder\, naturalist\, and have worked at the nursery since 2022! \n\nIn 2019 I took both the spring and fall Birding Basics classes offered by the Baton Rouge Audubon society. Enamored with Louisiana’s rich avian fauna and unique ecology\, I realized this was the perfect place to call “home”. My partner and I purchased a house the following year\, and it wasn’t long before the traditional lawn was transformed into my very own park. This park is now certified wildlife habitat\, with dozens of species documented in our little third of an acre in Mid-City! \n\n\nSince 2019 I have participated in a variety of birding events such as the Big Sit\, the Christmas Bird Count\, and FeederWatch. Before Covid I occasionally assisted the Louisiana bird observatory with their banding station at Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center. I also participated in an extended research project with the ornithology lab at LSU wherein I surveyed various buildings on campus for birds that had died from window strikes to determine risk factors and ways to help birds.\n\nWith all that being said\, I can’t wait to share everything I’ve learned from my experiences and the birding community with Louisiana Nursery. Just don’t forget your ABCs: Always Bird Constantly! (:
