What’s the difference between annuals and perennials?
Annuals are flowers that last only one season. They are a great choice if you like to change the look of your garden each year. Perennials come back year after year and are an excellent choice for longevity without a lot of maintenance. A good mix of each is always a good choice.
Warm-Season Annuals
Purslane
One of the most heat-tolerant & drought-tolerant blooming plants we offer! Purslane (or Portulaca) have succulent leaves and stems. Their flowers appear neon, come in many colors, and even hybrid for beautiful mixed patterns.
Vinca
Low or vining growth pattern, dark-green foliage, and a bright flower to contrast it all. Vinca can be planted in spring and will thrive in Louisiana's summer!
Wax Begonia
A classic annual flower that comes in reds, whites, and pinks. Leaves can come in dark green, bronze, or maroon depending on the amount of sunlight.
Penta
Clusters of unique, star-shaped blooms help the Penta stand out in your flower-beds. While you can cut them back to keep shape, pentas can grow taller than you'd expect. This makes them great as the center piece of a mixed flower-pot.
Sunpatiens
Sun-loving flowers available in many colors, perfect for a summer flower-bed or container. Will bloom from spring to mid-fall.
Super Petunia/Wave Petunia
Extra-hardy variety of petunia, can be planted early spring but will grow right through the hot summer months. Super-Petunias are almost the same as regular petunias in growth pattern, while wave petunias vine and do great in hanging baskets.
Cool-season Annuals
Pansies & Violas
The premier cool season color of our nursery, pansies can grow larger with bigger blooms while violas stay smaller with more numerous blooms. Each come in an vast number of varieties to match any color pallet!
Dianthus
Considered by many gardeners in Louisiana to be a "soft-perennial". Even as an annual, the flush of color when blooming in early spring or fall is hard to match. Anything else is a bonus!
Delphinium
Blue delphiniums can grow 2ft-6ft tall depending on variety, and have a stalky growth pattern. Difficult to find blue color that can stand above the rest of your flower-bed like this!
Snapdragon
Very stalky, herbaceous growth from 2-3 ft tall. Another great plant for the far-side of a bed or container. Available colors are very complimentary to fall. Plant in August for best results.
Alyssum
Sweet Alyssum flowers come in small bunches, fixed on an herbaceous stem that weighs on the free flowing structure of the plant. This weight pulls the plant downwards, giving a great look to hanging baskets or for the edges of a combo-pot.
Petunia
Great for the cooler months in early spring or early fall. Beautiful funnel-shaped flowers that come in many color variations. Small but rounded growth pattern.
Popular Perennials
Gerbera Daisy
A heat-loving plant with iconic and large flowers. Blooms appear at the end of a tall, herbaceous stalk, while the leaves and body of the plant stay lower to the ground.
Black-Eyed Susan
Grows quickly and is beloved by pollinators. Will blanket a landscape will vibrant yellow flowers from June to August, and comfortable survive the average Louisiana winter.
Foxgloves
Breathtaking tubular flowers with intricate, complimentary-colored patterns. This cool-season loving plant has skyrocketed in popularity. Can grow 2-3 feet tall and appear taller compared to other plants because of their stalks. Will come back most after most winters, but protection for a freeze will help dramatically.
Shrimp Plant
Comes in red, yellow, white, or coral pink. A real showpiece and topic of conversation for any garden. Will grow quickly, and bloom all the way from spring to winter.
Salvia
2-inch tubular flowers in dark royal-purple. Can be planted in full sun, as Salvia thrive even in Louisiana's hot summers. Will bloom from spring to late summer, and go dormant in the winter. Extra mulch before a freeze is recommended to keep your Salvia growing for many years.
