Turn Your Garden into a Pollinator-Haven
Join LA Nursery for a deep-dive on the world of pollinators, their purpose in our ecosystems, and the best plants to attract them to your backyard available at our garden center!
Guest Speaker: Isabelle Morgan
Isabelle (Isa) Morgan is the Insectarium Horticulturist at Audubon Nature Institute in New Orleans, Louisiana. In her day-to-day, she maintains the Audubon Butterfly Garden and educates the public on the importance of pollinators and native biodiversity.

About the Event:
Learn what it means to plan and plant a garden with the “pollinator-first” mindset. This includes using more native plants, practicing “companion planting,” and learning how we, as gardeners, can help our pollinators thrive in a multitude of ways.
Key Takeaways:
- What is Pollination: The bedrock of everything we do at the garden center is thanks to the miracle of pollinators and how they have co-evolved with plants. Knowing the “how” is key to understanding why we plant certain things for certain insects.
- Pollinator-Friendly Plant-Care: Thinking with the “pollinator-first” mindset means adjusting the chemical programs you’ve used in the past, or even adjusting your expectations of what a healthy garden looks like. This doesn’t mean cutting it all out, though! Organic certified products have made real strides over the years, and we’ll take a look at what can safely be applied to a pollinator haven!
- Butterfly Gardens: Monarchs tend to get all the attention, but there’s many other beautiful butterflies in Louisiana! Butterfly gardens are an especially popular subject with our garden club community, so we’ll have a section dedicated to attracting all kinds of them.
- Q&A: Have your questions answered by our expert guest speaker and garden center staff.
Who Should Attend:
- Butterfly enthusiasts and bug-lovers everywhere!
- Homeowners looking to add some extra life to their lawns.
- Any gardener wanting a better idea of how the plant & insect kingdoms come together.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn valuable tips and tricks for creating a thriving butterfly garden with the “pollinator-first” mindset!
