As we step into the new year, I cannot begin to express how excited I am for all the projects I will start this spring. The stores have seemingly finished transitioning from the Christmas holiday (although there are some great last-minute deals on unsold merchandise!), so I hope to see you all looking at what is new very soon.
This week I stopped by to do just that at our Perkins store. I was thoroughly impressed with the large assortment of Azaleas already available! I have a special affinity for Azaleas, as I have always associated them with southern gardening. Every article I read on their maintenance suggests well drained soil, which made me laugh coming from south Louisiana (we love the challenge down here). Despite the extra effort, it is no wonder Louisiana and our neighboring states fell for the classic flowered shrub. They come in such a variety of colors and durability that compliments much else one can do with their garden.
Beyond Azaleas, our custom arrangements (pot included) that we received so much praise for in the previous year are back! Our bedding house teams at all stores have the experience in horticulture and gardening you cannot find anywhere else. As such, we have trusted them with creating their own mixed arrangements for the best aesthetic possible in your home, garden, or business. So, if you see a potted plant at one of our stores, do not be afraid to ask if it is for sale!
I also wanted to say, frankly, that every single one of us in the Louisiana Nursery family are especially grateful for the massive support we received over the past year. We navigated through a crisis that others could not overcome. Without all your support reading these articles, being dedicated patrons of our stores, etc., we would be in a very different position.
I am praying for an especially boring 2021. A year of boring days working on the garden. Yes, I think I will be content with a truly boring, peaceful year. We will appreciate the quiet times a little more this year, and perhaps be better for it.
Have a blessed day, and a Happy New Year!
