This Christmas Classic is
Taking On A New Look
What could be a more iconic plant for the holiday season than the red & green leafed poinsettia? Each Christmas, our garden centers fill every square-inch of free space with these beautiful tropical plants.
Over the past couple of years, though, new introductions have switched the classic red foliage for entirely new colors, or intricate splashes of variegation. Join Louisiana Nursery as we showcase these variations with stunning photos and in-depth descriptions!
New Poinsettia Varieties

White Poinsettia
White Poinsettia
First in our list of solid color changes, the white poinsettia trades in the iconic red for a more subdued white foliage. We absolutely love how the green and white blend together on individual leaves. This effect exists on a red poinsettia, but the white variation capitalizes on it much more naturally. White Poinsettias will match your flocked or artificial white Christmas tree, giving more breathing room to other eye-catching pieces in your decor!

Pink Poinsettia

While switching pink in for the red foliage may sound like a negligible change, these pictures show it is anything but! Next to our candy themed display trees, the pink poinsettia is just as vibrant as ever. The dark green leaves are a great backdrop and really showoff the difference a slight change in tone can make. We promise the friends and family will be asking how on earth you got your poinsettia foliage to look the way it does (you can tell them it’s a green thumb secret)!

'Superba New Glitter'
'Superba New Glitter' Poinsettia
The newest variation to reach Louisiana Nursery, ‘Superba New Glitter’ poinsettia, is true to its name with bright splashes of variegation akin to white glitter being poured over the traditional red foliage. These really shine when paired with other bright plants, or even other poinsettias such as the white. If you know some of your Christmas guests are poinsettia fans, why not gift them with a beautiful take on their favorite holiday plant!

Marble Poinsettia
Marble Poinsettia
A true multi-color gem, the marble poinsettia isn’t afraid to be the centerpiece of your holiday celebration! The bottom foliage is an extreme dark green, almost blue, but quickly transitions to light green and splashes of yellow as you move up the plant. At the helm, leaf margins remain yellow only to contrast with a beautiful bright purple. This plant makes us wonder where Christmas ends and a brand new addition to our houseplant collection begins!

Cinnamon Poinsettia

Take your favorite pink poinsettia and sprinkle a dash of cinnamon on top! From head to toe, this uniquely blotchy variegation adds a dynamic look to every single leaf of the poinsettia. In the first photo of the slide, you can see how the margins of the green foliage is just as beautifully intriguing as the rest.

'Winter Rose'
Winter Rose Red Poinsettia
While uniqueness is a subjective quality, it’s hard to argue the winter rose poinsettia isn’t at the top of this list in that regard! The particular folding and compacted growth habit of the foliage mimics the look of a rose bloom – of course with all the features we love from our beautiful poinsettias. The veins of the green leaves (midribs) are often completely filled with the same red as the top of the plant. Another fantastic feature: you’ll often get three or four separate blooming stalks on each plant, a whole bouquet worth of winter roses!

Tree Poinsettia
Tree Poinsettia
Last on our list is a treat for those who think they don’t need anything but those traditional red and green leaves! The tree-form poinsettia stands around 36″ tall, with the “canopy” forming around a single woody trunk. Though the deco pot that comes standard looks great, a ceramic pot is the only thing stopping the tree poinsettia from reaching its full potential. Image two of these beautifully formal plants on either side of the front door as guests arrive on Christmas day!
