Garvinea Gerbera Daisy

Gerbera ‘Garspice’

Gerber daisies make just about everyone smiles. With Garvineas, each individual plant is reported to produce almost one hundred flowers from spring to frost! That’s a long season of smiles. With the right care and placement, these plants can provide blooms for most of our warm year!

Characteristics:

Dimensions: 12-19” x 12-15”

Growth Habit: Mounding

Foliage: Dark green leaves that almost look like spinach provide the perfect backdrop for vibrant flowers

Blooms: Long, strong stems with large bright flowers

Hardiness: Established plants hardy to 0-5(F)!

Toxicity: Although considered non-toxic, still don’t eat it.

Care Requirements:

Light: Part to full sun. Will tolerate full sun (6+ hours), although that might slow flowering in high temperatures. Best in morning sun and some afternoon shade.

Water: In containers, water when soil is dry to the touch; in the garden, water regularly- more often in hotter temperatures. It is best to grow these on the dry side to avoid rotting them.

Soil: Well-draining! Poorly draining soil can cause problems for any Gerbers

Fertilizer: Feed regularly during the growing season with a controlled release fertilizer containing micronutrients.

Pruning: Remove old foliage and flowers to encourage more blooms. Watch for signs of disease and insects while deadheading so that you’re able to treat any problems quickly!

Uses:

  • Useful for large containers
  • Great as a sunny border or mass planting
  • Suitable for cut flowers

Gerbera Garvineas is a disease and pest-resistant perennial that is bred to bloom repeatedly. They can bloom spring through fall, but more during cooler weather. During the hottest part of the summer, let your plant build-up for another show in the fall.
